Tutoring Opportunities

  • ACPS will offer priority-based after-school tutoring reading, ELA, and Math for elementary and high school students.  Middle school students receive tutoring services during the co-curricular period in their schedule.

Students in Grades K-3 who score either well below or below on DIBELS screening are eligible for after school tutoring. Tutoring of these students requires that the tutor implement an approved reading intervention program that targets the student’s identified skill deficits and aligns with the in-school intervention that the student receives.  Tutoring can include small groups of students with similar needs or individual students if there are not enough to make a group.  In-person tutoring is necessary, as the programs are difficult to implement virtually.

For grades 4-5 and 9-12, the tutoring program will focus on students who performed below grade level expectations on diagnostic assessments in ELA/reading and mathematics, and/or did not reach proficiency on the 2024 ELA or math assessment, as well as students with disabilities who need tutoring support services.

Tutoring will begin on September 30, 2024.  Tutoring may take place Monday through Thursday, from 2:45 p.m.-7:00 p.m.  (Tutoring has to occur after a teacher’s contractual work day ends, so starting times will vary based on the teacher dismissal time at each school.) Tutoring may occur in person at the school or through synchronous instruction.

The tutoring program will not occur on any legal holidays, Saturdays or Sundays. Tutoring will not occur during the Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter breaks.

Tutoring sessions will be either 30 or 60 minutes. A teacher may schedule multiple weekly sessions for any student who needs the academic support, as long as the parent approves. Tutoring sessions may be one-on-one or up to four students.  Parents will need to give written permission for their child (ren) to participate.

Parents may request tutoring; however, priority will be given to students who have skill deficits as explained above, and will depend on the number of available teacher tutors.
