The Maryland State Department of Education recognizes the importance of parents as full partners in the education of their children. For this reason, Dr. Nancy S. Grasmick, established the Maryland's Parent Advisory Council (M-PAC) in 2003 during her tenure as State Superintendent. The M-PAC is a group of parents that serve in an advisory capacity on issues of parent involvement.
The Board of Education of Allegany County agrees with this philosophy and has formed the Superintendent's Parent Advisory Council locally. The goal of the local Parent Advisory Council is to support the efforts of the public schools and to strengthen parent/family involvement for all children.
The Superintendent's Parent Advisory Council consists of school and central office administrators as well as parent and community representatives from all of Allegany County's twenty-two public schools. The PAC meets once a month, either face-to-face or virtually, for the duration of the school year and discusses an array of topics related to increasing student success.
