2021-2022 Pre-K, Kindergarten, Grade 1 Registration

  • Children who will enter public school for the first time in August should be registered April 6 - 30, 2021, by appointment only at the appropriate elementary school, as determined by their residence. Parents need to contact the child’s in district school by telephone or email to schedule an appointment.

    Pre-k Required Documentation

    • Proof of Residence (current utility bill, signed lease agreement, mortgage statement, bank statement, insurance statement, income tax form, pay stub). In instances where the owner/lessee of the home where the child lives is not the parent/guardian of the child, the owner/lessee of the home will provide a signed, notarized statement verifying the child resides at that address plus one proof of residence listed above. 
    • Copy of Child’s Birth Certificate
    • Child’s Social Security Number
    • Child’s Immunization Record

    PRIORITY STATUS for Pre-kindergarten is given to students who qualify based on income guidelines.  Income eligibility criteria to attend public pre-kindergarten is based on Code of Maryland Regulations 13A.06.02..01.To be considered for Priority 1 status, please provide Monthly Household Income (Before Taxes). Acceptable documentation includes:  Income Verification (W2, current pay stub(s), unemployment document, SSI documentation, or federal income tax form.

  • The Supervisor of Early Childhood Education provides leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating the instructional programs for students in Prekindergarten through grade five. They also provide leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the Early Childhood programs which includes the Judith P. Hoyer Center and the elementary reading program and serves as a resource person for administrators, faculties, School Improvement Teams, and community organizations.

    Early childhood education in the Allegany County Public Schools offers universal Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten programs. Pre-kindergarten is offered at 14 elementary schools. Pre-kindergarten classes are half day sessions. Morning and afternoon sessions are available in most locations. Eligible students may attend Head Start during the other half day at a Head Start facility.

    Kindergarten classes are mandatory for all students who are five years of age on or before September 1. Kindergarten is a full day program that is offered in each elementary school.
