In 2005, Mr. Harry Smith, principal of Washington Middle School at the time, organized what is known today as the Friends of Washington Middle School Foundation, Inc. The Foundation consists of parents, teachers, and community business partners working together for the betterment of Washington Middle School, and it's mission is to recognize each student as a community member, and, as a consequence, to assist each student in promoting his/her mental, physical, social, and emotional well-being.
The administration of WMS feel that students at this influential age need programs like this more than ever, and the Foundation's committee members feel that it is their responsibility to give back to the community by helping to shape the future of students and promote economic growth in Allegany County.
The Foundation's Board of Directors includes: Stephen Kobert, president; Frank Palumbo, treasurer; Julie Kostovick, secretary; Greg Hare, past president; Harry Smith, principal; George Brown, William DuVall, Jennifer Hare, Shawnee McElfish, Joni Reed, Snake Robertson, Peggy Ruppenkamp, Janis Tichnell, Jack Wilson, Jamie Woodring.
