Making an Impact - Allegany County Graduates: Locally Grown, Nationally Known
Allegany County Public Schools will produce an annual video series beginning with the 2019-2020 school year recognizing the lifetime achievements of Allegany County graduates who have made a national impact or who have received significant recognition. Each vignette, entitled “Making an Impact: Allegany County Graduates – Locally Grown, Nationally Known”, will feature six graduates.
The purpose of this video series, which will be available for viewing on this page, the ACPS Video on Demand site, and social media pages, is to highlight the impact that local graduates have made on society, not just in the areas of sports and entertainment, but also in the areas of science, architecture, medicine, and education. A five-person committee consisting of retired ACPS employees and local historians has been formed to make the selections each year.
The deadline to submit a nomination for consideration in the 2019-2020 school year’s video is October 1, 2019. Nominees can be from public or private schools or may have also been home-schooled. Additionally, if a student only had the option to complete a grade lower than 12th and “graduated” from that grade, the nominee will still be considered. Not all nominees will be able to be selected; however, since this is a multi-year series, all nomination forms will be kept for consideration in subsequent years.
Nomination forms, seen below, can be submitted electronically to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed to the Board of Education of Allegany County, Attn: Mia Cross, Public Information Officer, 108 Washington Street, Cumberland, MD. Please note that if a nominee is under consideration by the committee, additional information besides what is required on the form may be needed including photographs, web links, or published documents.
