Chamber of Commerce Hosts Biomedical Health Forum

The Allegany County Chamber of Commerce hosted a Biomedical Health Forum on October 6, 2022, at Allegany High School. More than 300 ACPS students in the Biomedical Science Program (Grades 9-12 at Allegany, Fort Hill, and Mountain Ridge High Schools) and students in the Academy of Health program at the Career Center participated in the interactive presentation.

The purpose of the forum was to promote knowledge and opportunity about careers in the biomedical industry from the perspective of local employers. The panel included Tamara Early, Gonzaga Health; Kate Barnard, Kinfolk Counseling; Dr. Romaine, Lifetime Dental; Krista Barry, PharmaCare Network; Chris Whiteman, Progressive Physical Therapy; and Mary Prasada- Rao, UPMC Western Maryland.

Employers provided an overview of careers available at their respective businesses, hard to hire positions, educational and training requirements, and the type of employability skills they look for during the hiring process. The panel participated in targeted questions that focused on current trends in the biomedical industry, while promoting desirable jobs in Allegany County.

The Allegany County Chamber of Commerce's Education Committee plans to host additional forums focusing on various industries in order to inform and promote career opportunities to ACPS students. Making connections with employers, educational institutions, and students enhances college and career readiness.
