School, Staff Honored for Exemplary High Performance
On Thursday, September 24, 2020, U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, announced that Cash Valley Elementary School was among 367 schools nationwide being recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2020. Cash Valley was selected in 2019 as one of six Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools for being an Exemplary High Performing School as measured by state assessment scores in math and English Language Arts.
“Believing Every Connection Counts, we are an educational family acknowledging that positive school-community relationships develop an integrated unit with common expectations for educational success,” said Cash Valley Principal, Dr. Lisa Stevenson. “We attribute this success to our vision, mission, and core values; with school initiatives prioritized on students’ needs delivered through best practices.”
The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Now in its 38th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed almost 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools, with some schools winning multiple awards.
“It is always exciting to have our schools and their employees recognized at the state and national levels,” said school board president, Mrs. Tammy Fraley. “I have always said that education in Allegany County is at the top of Maryland, and this shows that others are recognizing that as well.”
Cash Valley serves students in grades pre-kindergarten through grade five, providing education through general classrooms, regional structured learning environments, inclusion services, and early childhood programs beginning at age three. Differentiation is the school’s strategy for academic success. Multi-Tiered Systems of Support identify instructional practices to sustain their improvement initiatives. “Differentiation approaches have unified our school and created an environment with quality feedback, blended learning, and strong relationships to foster a love of lifelong learning,” said Dr. Stevenson.
“Congratulations to Cash Valley Elementary School for receiving this prestigious honor,” said ACPS Interim Superintendent, Mr. Jeff Blank. “I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication to academic success demonstrated by the school’s staff and students.”
The 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools awards ceremony will be held virtually on November 12 and 13, 2020. Cash Valley now joins Bel Air, Cresaptown, and Frost Elementary Schools as Allegany County Public Schools who have achieved National Blue Ribbon School status.
