Interim Superintendent Announces Administrative Staffing Updates for 2019-2020
Assistant Principal Positions at Allegany, George’s Creek, Mt. Savage Filled; Assistant Supervisor of Transportation Named
Interim Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Jeff Blank, has announced several administrative staffing positions for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. Charles Moran will drop the interim title from his role as the assistant principal at Allegany High School; Jennifer Ramsey will assume the vacant position of assistant principal at George’s Creek Elementary School; Jill Hartsfield will become the new assistant principal at Mt. Savage School; and Mike Mathews will be the new assistant supervisor of transportation.
Charles Moran was named interim assistant principal at Allegany in January, filling the vacancy left by Heidi Laupert, who will took over as interim principal following the retirement of Mike Calhoun. He will continue in this role for the 2019-2020 as the permanent AP.
“I am excited to remain in my role as assistant principal at Allegany this year and to continue to work with the great staff, students, and Allegany High School community,” said Moran.
Mr. Moran earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education and his Master of Education degree in Administration and Supervision, both from Frostburg State University. He began his career in ACPS in 2002 as a fifth grade teacher at South Penn Elementary School. He has also served as a Title I teacher, an elementary math specialist, and an assistant principal.
Jennifer Ramsey will take over as assistant principal at George’s Creek, filling the vacancy left by Dr. Lisa Stevenson, who is now the new principal at Cash Valley Elementary School. She began her tenure with ACPS in 2004 at Beall Elementary School and has taught pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first grade, and third grade. She has been a teacher at South Penn Elementary School since 2008.
“I am truly honored to be named the assistant principal of George's Creek Elementary,” said Ramsey. “I look forward to collaborating with the staff, students and families to ensure a successful and memorable school year.”
Ramsey holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education and a Master of Education degree in Reading, both from Frostburg State University. She is also completing additional coursework at FSU in Administration and Supervision.
Jill Hartsfield will fill assume the role of assistant principal at Mt. Savage School this year. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Towson University and a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in Administration and Supervision from McDaniel College. Hartsfield joins ACPS from Baltimore County where she most recently served as the assistant principal at Catonsville Elementary School. Other positions she’s held include an elementary teacher, a teacher mentor, and for the past seven years, assistant principal.
A native of Allegany County, Jill said, “I am happy to be back in the area and look forward to getting to know the students and staff at Mt. Savage this year.”
Michael Mathews has been a school bus driver in Allegany County since 2003 and has been a driver trainer since 2016. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from James Madison University in Communication Arts/Journalism. Mathews fills the vacancy of Assistant Supervisor of Transportation left by Mark Morral, who was recently promoted to Supervisor of Transportation.
“I plan to work hard and do my best to help the department continue to run in an effective and efficient manner to ensure the safe transport of our students,” said Mathews.
