School Board Approves Pre and Post-Labor Day Academic Calendars for 2020-2021 School Year

In January 2020, Governor Larry Hogan announced that he would introduuce legislation that would require Maryland public schools to being their school year after Labor Day. Hogan's legislation, dubbed the Universal School Start Act of 2020, would undo 2019 legislation that gave local school boards control over their academic calendars. 

 

ACPS has approved a pre-Labor Day calendar and a post-Labor Day calendar. ACPS will use the pre-Labor Day calendar for the 2020-2021 school year if the post Labor-Day calendar is not required.

Please note that Maryland school districts may not know if a post-Labor Day start will be required until this summer.
