Braddock Middle School Mathcounts Team Wins for 7th Straight Year

mathcounts On Saturday, February 23, 2019, nine middle schools from Allegany and Washington Counties competed in the 36th Annual Hagerstown Regional Mathcounts Competition. The top three teams and seventeen highest scoring individuals advance to the Maryland State Finals on March 16. 2019, at John's Hopkins University in Baltimore. 


For the seventh straight year, Braddock Middle School's team won the competition followed by teams from Boonsboro (2nd) and Bishop Walsh (3rd).  This was also the 31st regional win for Braddock over the 36-year span.  The top five individuals scores were: first place, Colin Sheehe (Braddock); second and third places, Yifan Zhang and Hunter Liao (Boonsboro); fourth place, Cole Fiscus (Braddock); and fifth place, Brayson Fleegle (Washington Middle).  The following additional four students from Braddock qualified for the state finals: Ian Kiddy, Zac Septoff, Eli Litman, and Emmanuel Kujenga.   This was Colin Sheehe's second straight first place win, having won last year's competition.


Braddock also swept the top five places in the alternate competition with first place going to Audrey Litman, followed by Nicoli Litten, Ben Strozykowski, Alex Kennel, and Ayden Leith.  The team is coached by Ray Short and Seila Greise.
