Four Cash Valley Students Win Children’s Book Illustration Contest
Artwork to be Featured in Book about Appalachian Mountains
Four students from Cash Valley Elementary School have been selected by children’s book author, Cassity Riffe McCool-Solis, to have their artwork featured in her newest book about the Appalachian Mountains. Matteal Parker, fifth grade; Gavin Alderman, fourth grade; Camryn DeWitt, fourth grade; and Katelynn Gaumer, third grade, entered the author’s book illustration contest and were four of only 20 chosen to have their drawings appear in McCool-Solis’ upcoming book.
The author currently lives in Texas but grew up nestled in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky. Her contest strived to allow artists of all ages and skill levels to submit an illustration for a page in her book. Contestants were asked to draw a picture of what they love most about living in the Appalachian Mountains.
Cash Valley’s art teacher, Daphanie Jenkins, offered the contest information to her art students at both Cash Valley and West Side as an optional activity. Winning students will receive a free copy of McCool-Solis’ book.
