Mountain Ridge Awards Two Scholarships at Graduation

scholarship pic Mountain Ridge High School awarded two notable scholarships during its graduation ceremony on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. First, the Edward S. and Sara J. Moran scholarship was awarded to three seniors planning to pursue their education at a two or four- year institution. The Moran family has sponsored this scholarship since 1974. Each recipient will receive $2,500 per year for four years. Winners included Kayla Crowe, who will attend Allegany College of Maryland to major in Nursing; Garrett Ternent, who will attend St. Mary’s College of Maryland to major in Anthropology; and Alexie Arnold, who will attend West Virginia Wesleyan College to becoming an Athletic Trainer.

 

The second scholarship awarded at graduation was the Community Trust Foundation – Dick Ryan Scholarship. This scholarship is given to a senior who is planning to pursue their degree in science, math or engineering. Leah Shaffer, the Director of the Community Trust Foundation, assisted in the presentation of this award, which is a $3,000 per year for four years scholarship. This year's winner was Brett Thomas. Brett plans to attend Frostburg State University to major in Medical Sciences. He hopes to one day become an Endocrinologist.
