Allegany County Volunteer Speakers’ Bureau and the STEM Specialist in the Classroom Program
In ACPS, a goal is to foster academic growth and promote student success through a volunteer speakers’ bureau. Individuals will share a message with identified students or grade levels that achievement in school will pay off in college, the workplace and in life.
We are looking for volunteers from business, industry, higher education, and governmental agencies to speak to students about the importance of taking rigorous academic courses, doing well in school, and preparing for their future.
We are also looking for STEM practitioners from federal agencies, industry, and higher education to visit classrooms and inform and inspire students about real-world STEM work.
Do you want to be a volunteer speaker for the Speakers’ Bureau and/or STEM Specialist in the Classroom? To apply, send an email explaining your interest to Breann D’Atri via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Speakers must be highly motivated, have a positive attitude, and the ability to communicate effectively with the grade levels of the students who will be the intended audience.
If you are selected for the Speakers’ Bureau and/or STEM Specialist, you will need to do the following:
SIGN-UP: Attend a short training session (virtual and in-person options) that will be offered by ACPS staff during the spring and/or summer of 2022.
PRESENT: Facilitate two to four 30-minute presentations throughout the school year (tentatively for the 22-23 school year and beyond - You will choose the dates that fit your schedule based on the selected time frame.)
