School Board Votes on Return to School Plan for 2021-2022 School Year

The Board of Education voted on an amended Return to School Plan for the start of the 2021-2022 school year at their August 3rd meeting. At this time, ACPS will follow the guidance issued by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) and the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) regarding K-12 School and Childcare during COVID-19.  The MDH and MSDE guidance document was revised on July 23, 2021. The school board will continue to monitor local health conditions and guidance to determine if a modification to their Return to School plan is necessary.

Prior to the school board's vote they had the opportunity to hear from local health department officials who provided information on quarantine procedures and layered prevention strategies. The amendment to the original ACPS plan as presented will now include the following language directly from the state's guidance: "MDH/MSDE strongly recommend, but do not require, that all individuals who are not fully vaccinated continue to wear face coverings in all indoor settings outside of their home and in outdoor settings when physical distancing cannot be maintained."
