ACPS Receives GIANT Company Donation

Allegany County Public Schools is excited to announce it is a recipient of The GIANT Company’s Feeding School Kids Round Up program. Through this program, The GIANT Company and shoppers at GIANT, MARTIN’S and GIANT Heirloom Market Stores, support school districts in addressing childhood hunger throughout the local community.

"At Martin's, we make it a priority to help care for our community. We strive to make a difference every day with what we do,” says Amber Stevenson, Assistant Store Manager. “We want to change children's lives and eliminate hunger.  We took part in an initiative for Feeding School Kids. We are happy to work together with our Cumberland store to be able to help with a cause near and dear to us."

Shoppers have the choice to round up their grocery purchases to their nearest dollar or convert their CHOICE points into a donation for their local public schools’ food programs. The GIANT Company matches all customer donations up to $250,000.

"We are very thankful to our local Martin’s stores for the continued support they have provided as a result of this program,” says Larry McKenzie, Chief Financial Officer. “They continue to be great partners to education in the region."

Over the last two years, The GIANT Company and its customers have donated more than $4.9 million. School districts that receive donated funds, are able to use them to support meal programs such as: covering outstanding student meal debt, expanding food distribution programs, creating on-campus food pantries, and supplying extra weekend meals.

“ACPS is grateful for the partnership with The GIANT Company and their local Martin’s stores,” says Jeffrey Blank, Superintendent. “We appreciate their dedication to helping address nutritional needs for our students in Allegany County.”
