Allegany High School Inducts 56 Students into National Honor Society

New members join 41 current seniors in prestigious organization recognizing scholarship, service, leadership and character.

CUMBERLAND, Md. – November 13, 2025 – Fifty-six junior and senior students at Allegany High School were inducted into the National Honor Society during a ceremony on October 21 in the school's theater.

The ceremony, attended by parents, staff and guests, was also live streamed school-wide. The new members join 41 current senior members who were inducted last year and have remained in good standing.

"These students have demonstrated excellence in the four pillars of the National Honor Society: scholarship, service, leadership and character," said Principal Scott Bauer, who addressed inductees during the ceremony.

Student officers elected by the NHS membership conducted the ceremony. Officers are President Nicholas Wilt, Vice President Leigha Read, Secretary/Historian Madison Parks and Treasurer Noah Marker.

New members were selected by a faculty committee following an extensive application and verification process evaluating students' academic achievement, community service, leadership experience and character.

Thirteen seniors were inducted: Joshua Armstrong, Mykah Baker, Bryleigh Bosley, Sullivan Grassi, Anderson Guzman-Pineda, Akirra Hamilton, Dustin Long, Emelise McDonald, Kayla Smith, Riley Stevanus, Hannah Townsend, Ella Wenstrand and Paige Yommer.

Forty-three juniors were inducted: Shelby Barcay, Brilynn Beatty, Gabriela Bonarigo, Claire Buskirk, Christian Cage, Madison Cannon, Trevin Cox, Ashley Defibaugh, Camryn DeWitt, Saylor Dignan, Noah Filer, Traeh Grassi, Raegan Grove, Alexis Haggerty, Corinna Hilderbrand, Maizzy Hose, Mary Imes, Aubrey Jackson, Aidan Johnson, Kylie Johnson, Taylor Johnson-Poe, Hadia Khan, Carter Knipple, Elizabeth Krepps, Tyler Lankford, Collin Larson, Chelsea Martinez, Madisen McCormick, Rylee McKenzie, Gracie Miller, Abigail Moore, Alexa Morrison, Tyson Ramsey, Raya Siebert, Noah Simmons, Alexander Spriggs, Emma Strother, Hailey Swarner, Karma Thomas, Elias Trexler, Isabella Turano, Haylee Twigg and Hadley Wagoner.

Bryan Hansel, Allegany High School's Teacher of the Year and a math teacher, also addressed the inductees. He encouraged students to continue serving as role models and pursue leadership opportunities.

The National Honor Society, established in 1921, is one of the oldest and most prestigious organizations for high school students. Chapters exist in three-fourths of the nation's high schools. The Allegany High School chapter, now in its 72nd year, was established in 1954.

The school's NHS Faculty Council includes co-advisors Dr. Lori Brown and Dr. Kay Sheehe, along with Erin Cowan, Michael Nestor, Kenneth Pfromm and Kevin Wallace.
