The Mountain Ridge High School Chapter of the National Honor Society recently held its induction ceremony for the 2024-2025 school year welcoming 72 new members to the organization.

The NHS recognizes juniors and seniors who display outstanding accomplishment in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership and character. Students are required to have a grade point average of 3.7 or higher in order to apply for membership into the organization.

The ceremony was held in the school’s theatre under the direction of advisers Mrs. Vicki Hoover and Mr. Todd Logsdon. The program opened with a processional played by Timothy Watson and then Tess Crawford sang the national anthem.  The guest speaker was Ms. Tommelynn Raines, Mountain Ridge science teacher and member of the 2013 graduating class of Mountain Ridge.

Superintendent Mr. Jeff Blank, Principal Mr. Danny Carter, Assistant Principal Mr. James Evans, Assistant Principal Dr. Alyssa Werner and board member, Lori Lepley were in attendance. Four candles representing each characteristic of the NHS were lit by officers James Chen, president, scholarship; Jazmyn White, vice-president, service; Lindsey Kahl, secretary, leadership; and Sophia Zhang, treasurer, character.
