CUMBERLAND, Md. – May 29, 2026 – The annual Allegany County Envirothon competition was held on April 29 at Rocky Gap State Park. Twelve teams from five schools participated in the event: Allegany High School, the Center for Career & Technical Education, Fort Hill High School, Mountain Ridge High School and Bishop Walsh School. The teams competed in five areas of environmental literacy: aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife, and non-point source pollution. The winning team, Team 1 from Bishop Walsh School, advances to the state competition to be held June 10-11 at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg.
Allegany High School’s Chesapeake Champions took second place, followed by another Allegany team, Fishy Business. The Sages of Science team from Mountain Ridge High School received an Honorable Mention.
