Allegany County Public Schools’ Response to Today’s Incident at Allegany High School
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cumberland Maryland — March 27, 2026 — At 7:29 a.m. this morning, Allegany High School received a threat of harm from an outside caller.
Students and staff were instructed to hold in the nearest classrooms and our lockdown procedures were enacted. Administrators, faculty and staff ensured that students were safe and supported throughout this incident.
Law enforcement personnel arrived on the scene within minutes and the school was secured. A comprehensive sweep of the building was conducted and a C3I investigation was started.
Once it was determined by law enforcement that the threat was no longer imminent, our reunification process was implemented. Students were transported by bus to Allegany College of Maryland where they were reunited with their families.
“The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority and no one should ever compromise this expectation,” said Superintendent Dr. Michael J. Martirano.
“We are grateful to our staff, community partners, and law enforcement agencies for their continued collaboration in protecting our students and staff. Through this strong and ongoing partnership, we remain confident that our schools are, and will continue to be, safe environments for all.”
