CUMBERLAND, Md., — Dec. 3, 2025 — Fort Hill High School will host Christmas in the Courtyard, a free community event for all ages, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 10.

The evening will feature a tree lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m., with Santa Claus and special guests, including the Grinch, making appearances throughout the event. The school's Sentinelettes will serve as Santa's elves and assist with the photo booth. Two snow machines will add to the festive atmosphere in the courtyard.

Attendees can enjoy complimentary hot cocoa and treats while taking part in live music, caroling, games and a photo booth.

Multiple student groups will participate in the event, including the 4-H Club at Fort Hill, technology education students, National Honor Society students, jazz band performers, and Student Council representatives. The event is being organized by Tanya Gomer, Fort Hill’s community school coordinator.

Each grade level has decorated a Christmas tree for the event. Community members can cast votes for their favorite, with the winning grade receiving an extra 30 minutes of "red time."

The goal of the event is to spread joy across the community this season. As Gomer explained, "We are bringing the community back into our community school."
