The Board of Education has five elected members who serve four-year terms, plus an ex-officio member from the Allegany County Board of Commissioners, and the Superintendent of Schools, who serves as Secretary-Treasurer.
The Board also includes a non-voting student member who serves a one-year term. To qualify for that position, a student must:
- Be a full-time senior in Allegany County Public Schools
- Have lived in Allegany County for at least two years
- Be in good standing at their school
- Be nominated and elected during their junior year through a process chosen by the Allegany County Association of Student Councils
The student member does not attend Executive Sessions.
